They always say you should build the UI last and now we know why!
Not only has Frog's Princess evolved over the years of its creation, but we know more about how people play it. So here is our before and after versions of the buttons.

See what happens when you add the finishing touches to a game? Your characters get away from you! We were surprised on reviewing our Character page on this website to see we only had visiting princes who faced backwards, and a temporary King of Olden, and no citizens of Olden at all! So we made an updated character line-up. Sharp-eyed readers will see that we weren't able to fit all the characters in.
Where is Soldier Willard? Where are the diners and other villagers of Olden? Even the King of Olden was deleted from the line-up as it was too busy. Did you know there is an Australian Fairy Tale Society? We only found out when Kathy spoke at their 2020 [and then 2021] conference.
Kathy now has the honour of being the web guardian for the society. Here is the end-of-year image she made for the society for 2021 using images in the public domain. The South Australian Women in Innovation Award was announced over Zoom.
Kathy won the award for creating Frog's Princess, the world's first full length fully voiced fully interactive children's novel. [She explained to the judges that Brave Rock Games' Alice in Wonderland would have been the first but it has minimal interactivity.] Kathy was sent treats on the day and THEN there was a photoshoot! The SA Screen Awards game category is for games up to 30 minutes, so we entered the demo, Chapters 1&2, which takes 30 minutes to play.
AND.... We received a nomination in the Best Game category! South Australian Women in Innovation is a hard working group of volunteers who celebrate innovative South Australian women. They do this with their Winnovation Awards.
Kathy cunningly announced her nomination in the Arts category for a Winnovation Award, because she didn't expect to win. But... Kathy won the 8th annual Winnovation Award in the Arts section, for making Frog's Princess!
This time we thought we'd try having a child player introduce the game.
See what you think! Kathy is thrilled to have been nominated for a South Australian Women in Innovation Winnovation Award 2021 for making Frog's Princess.
Is it because it's the first full screen 2D English children's novel to have character customisation? Is it because it's the first one to have blind accessibility? Or the first one to be voice acted? Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth! It's a great honour to receive an Australian Game Developer Award, and Kathy has had a marvellous time thanking everyone for their congratulations.
She even posted a copy of the letter of congratulations she received from the SA Film Corporation, who support games in South Australia. Now she has received a letter of congratulation from the Minister for Superannuation! Well, it's not that bad. That is just one of the Minister's portfolios. In fact, the letter was sent by Senator The Hon Jane Hume as the Minister for the Digital Economy. Which is very ironic because being a game developer is the opposite of saving money for the future. All the same it is a nice letter of congratulation. Kathy received a letter of congratulation from the South Australian Film Corporation for her Rising Star Award!
