Princess Emma
No one will listen to Emma.
Her mother always taught her that one day a prince would come riding up and claim Emma for his own. But Mother has died, and Father seems bewitched by the mysterious Lady Lorelei, and every day the clouds cover more of the skies and the dark trees trespass on the fields.
Emma's elder sisters are clever and kind, bold and beautiful, and they explain to Emma that she is helpless to do anything about the evil surrounding the kingdom.
Emma is the only one who can see the evil in Lady Lorelei, and that the evil is growing stronger.
Desperate to protect her kingdom, Emma dresses in Mother's clothes on the anniversary of her death, and takes the Golden Orb, the treasure of Kassel, to call for help.
Princes answer her call, but refuse to help. Emma keeps trying and finally a frog arrives and accidentally causes the Orb to drop into the well. He will retrieve it for a kiss. Emma refuses, so the frog bargains to be her pet before he will help her. Only after he has retrieved the Orb does he prove that he really is a prince. Emma feels tricked and betrayed. If she kisses the frog, she will have to marry him. Even having him in her room could bring about a marriage. She runs away, calling for him to stay at the well where she will send him help. But some frogs can't stay put...
Perhaps with the frog's help, Emma will gain the confidence she needs to save her kingdom herself.
