Character appearance
We delayed our launch by a year to create a character customization module for Frog's Princess.
Our character customization (although limited to skin tone, hair style and colour, and eye colour) includes baldness so cancer patients can be heroes, too.
Hair style and skin tone choices are reflected in their families’ appearances.
We are aware players like to change face shape, mouth shape, and mouth colour as well but this was beyond our scope. We think players will be accepting of the limited face shape choices because the characters are already exaggerated with eyes so big and mouths so understated, they are almost anime in style.
We experimented with spectacles and hearing aids and sadly decided they were beyond the scope of the game. They were the last feature to be deleted from the game design.

Neurodiverse hero
Prince Francis has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). He constantly jumps into trouble, but also jumps to the aid of others.
Francis becomes heroic while staying true to his hyperactive nature.

Gender equity
Frog’s Princess has two heroes: a princess and a prince. Both have a strong character arc. The prince helps the princess learn she has the power to save her own kingdom. The princess helps the prince learn he has the sensitivity to heal the kingdom.
Forces of good and evil are represented by a soldier (male), and a witch (female).
The princess has meaningful relationships with her two older sisters who, although well-intentioned, do not treat her with respect. The story’s confrontations are not only between the sexes.
The prince’s motivation throughout the story is to rescue his mentor. He is not trying to rescue a female.
Both men and women make outrageous statements (“Girls should not dabble in strong magic.” “Cripples cannot be happy.”) These are explosively refuted in the action.
While Frog’s Princess has the appearance of a strongly gendered princess story, its aim is to show people who like these stories, the opposite gender being treated with respect, so they will expect respect when they consume their next story.

Different personalities
The ten dialogue choices for hero speech are based on different fears and motivations. When players explore them, they see valid but different reactions, increasing their understanding and empathy for people who react differently to themselves.
