Recording the dialogue for Frog's Princess was a significant exercise. So we made a movie about it!
First, Kathy gave a talk about Recording Dialogue at the Adelaide Game Developer Talks, then Kathy was honoured to have her talk proposal accepted for GCAP 2020. And also panicked, as she was given 18 days to create it in video format.
Gabriel Allani, the original actor for the male voices, reprised his role in the movie, and Dylan Warren, another Adelaide actor and voice actor, acted as the sound engineer. Kathy was the bumbling producer - she makes a worryingly convincing incompetent producer. Arthur Ah Chee was unable to contribute due to illness.
Kristian Leadbeater edited the movie, and Kathy added voice-over for the PowerPoint slides. She may, possibly, maybe, have accidentally deleted Kristian's colour grading. But it looks great anyway!
The video was emailed to GCAP on the due date at 7pm (that's close of business, isn't it?).
Supporting material to help other game devs with dialogue recording sessions is available on Kathy's designer website: https://kathysmartgamedesigner.com/recording-dialog.html
The best part about the whole exercise is that Gabriel Allani produced a Wilhelm scream which was made available to GCAP game devs for free, for them to use and abuse as they see fit. Hopefully they will credit Gab in their games.
