<![CDATA[Frog's Princess - News]]>Thu, 27 Jun 2024 03:30:26 +0930Weebly<![CDATA[Scott Purcival to the rescue again!]]>Tue, 14 May 2024 13:09:16 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/scott-purcival-to-the-rescue-againBlind players can play the original Frog's Princess storybook but they need help setting it up. We held off on posting updates because we wanted it to be fully accessible to blind players playing independently.

Two programmers attempted to fix this but were unable to.

And then along came Scott!

Yes, Scott Purcival who made the original storybook playable, and optimised it, and made the characters customisable, that Scott. He was the one who you might remember made the dancing frog timer and surprised the team one day with a Swimmy Frog game! He is now working at Tea Games doing much more sophisticated projects than interactive novels, but they were kind enough to let him work on Frog's Princess for us.
Head and shoulders of a handsome man in an office chair looking directly at the camera wearing glasses and sporting a moustache and the start of a beard.

<![CDATA[The back arrow tried to escape!]]>Fri, 26 Apr 2024 14:30:00 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/the-back-arrow-tried-to-escapeWhen you make a lot of small changes, sometimes you can accidentally move things around.

Here we found the back arrow for the mirror was too high.

This is what it looked like before it was fixed.

<![CDATA[Soldier Willard moves]]>Sat, 23 Mar 2024 13:30:00 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/soldier-willard-movesWe know Soldier Willard always follows the rules, but that is because he always tries to protect his King.

Here after Emma and Francis defeat the Witch, he turns to his King while Francis is telling Emma what happened while she was unconscious.

<![CDATA[Small changes]]>Fri, 23 Feb 2024 13:30:00 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/small-changesWe have spent 3 years making small changes like this one.

Emma was too large in the previous version of Chapter Two, Scene One, Page 7.

Now she is the right size!

<![CDATA[Radio interview]]>Tue, 30 Jan 2024 12:01:12 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/radio-interviewOh my goodness, it's been a while! After faithfully keeping up our blog for more than 4 years, we seem to have taken ahem... a year's break.

So what have we been doing?

Well, Kathy has been teaching at SAE Creative Media Institute for the past year. However today she was contacted by a radio announcer and she places the interview here for your listening pleasure.

Note that Kathy is introduced 6:34 minutes into this excerpt [1:19:33 in the actual show].

The thrust of her message is that it takes indie developers to make really original games.

<![CDATA[Get behind that tree!]]>Mon, 19 Dec 2022 12:06:13 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/get-behind-that-treeOver the past couple of years we have made a significant number of small corrections to Frog's Princess, and there are only the big ones to go before we put out a big patch.

However occasionally we have a little visit and make more little corrections.

Would you believe it, when the cart was driving behind the lemon tree, Iron Henry showed in front of it! Well, we can't have that, so we fixed it today.

<![CDATA[You can judge a book by its cover.]]>Fri, 04 Nov 2022 13:30:00 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/you-can-judge-a-book-by-its-coverWhen we published a storybook, we had no idea of the number of covers we would need for it!

Here is how the latest one developed.

<![CDATA[Privacy]]>Sat, 29 Oct 2022 09:05:55 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/privacyAs it turns out, it is not good enough to have a Privacy page hidden away in the About pages. Oh no! It must be in the Main Menu.

Because the Main Menu is already small for little fingers to press the buttons on a phone screen, we put our new Privacy button off to the side.

Here is Frog, waving to us to show us where the button is!

<![CDATA[GCAP 2022]]>Sun, 16 Oct 2022 08:52:25 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/gcap-2022Did you know that game developers have their own conferences? Well, they do!

Kathy had a wonderful opportunity to speak with producers, designers, artists and programmers from around Australia last last week. (It has taken a week to get the energy to write this post!)

Many thanks to IGEA, the Interactive Games and Entertainment Association which supports the game development industry in Australia, and runs GCAP amongst its many other activities.

<![CDATA[Government submission. Boring, boring, boring...]]>Sat, 10 Sep 2022 14:13:08 GMThttp://frogsprincess.com/blog/government-submission-boring-boring-boringWell, somebody has to do it.

Making a game in Australia has shown the studio how poorly games are supported in Australia. Kathy Smart Game Design Pty Ltd lodged a 17-page document showing many, many ways the government could support the videogame industry. It is up at https://www.arts.gov.au/sites/default/files/submissions/ncp0513-kathy-smart-game-design-pty-ltd.pdf and if you would like a screen-readable version, contact us at friends@joy-everafter.com.

There is no date stamp to show it was lodged at 3:50am on a working Monday, the day it was due!
